Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Barry McDonald Depression or prolonged sadness is actually quite common in the United States, around 9.5 percent of the American population actually suffers from this illness, however, not all of them get to be treated, thus, depression and its ill-effects continue to be a burden to some individuals. This illness may seem quite simple to treat but in reality, it takes more than a little cheering up to actually cure depression. Constant visits to a cognitive behavior therapist is a must as well as taking all the prescribed medicines that the doctor will ask the patient to take none of these exactly come cheap, but the amount of suffering that a person is going through because of depression is enough reason already for others to start taking notice and face depression head on through the various depression treatments that are available today. Depression oftentimes can easily get in the way of an individuals daily activities and his or hers normal functions, ones zest for life can quickly and easily dissipate due to depression. And in place of an individuals sunny disposition is more or less a person who hates his or herself, having no self-confidence, trying to isolate ones self from the world and basically just not caring about living any more. More so, a person suffering from depression isnt the only one whos going to suffer from this destructive illness, his or her loved ones are sure to follow suit. By seeing the individual grow through such rough patches, basically not caring about anything or anyone anymore, its highly likely that not only will depression ones relationship with ones self but with his or her loved ones too. But this shouldnt really pose as such a problem since people who suffer from depression are actually lucky that there are all sorts of depression treatments that can be used to aid an individual through the course of having a sound mental health. Depression treatment actually starts with the patient openly acknowledging his or her illness, by just being honest with ones self, itll be a lot easier not only for the doctor but for the patient most of all, to actually cure depression and find an appropriate depression treatment for him or her. From various medications (like Zoloft antidepressant depression treatment) to all sorts of psychotherapies promising to be the best depression treatment. The patient, as well as his or her family are sure to get the best, positive results from these depression treatments. Psychotherapy, a popular type of depression treatment actually includes short-term therapy sessions, usually from ten to twenty weeks promising to actually be able to make positive results for the depression patient. This type of depression treatment actually helps the individual by slowly making them to actually open up about their feelings, the root of their problems, more so, the root of their depression. Healthy verbal exchanges between the cognitive behavior therapist and the depression patient is great depression treatment thatll positively affect the depression patient by helping him or her discuss and talk about whatever theyve been keeping inside. Various medications that are available for depression treatment are actually great for helping the depression patient to regulate his or her mood swings, to actually help him or her sleep better and as well as be more pleasant towards others. Candy and Edible Wedding Favor Ideas

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Erica Tevis You have found yourself searching the wedding websites, reading article after article, browsing through magazines, but you still have not found your perfect wedding favors. You’re not even sure at this point if you should give wedding favors out. You should, and here’s why, plus we’ll offer some simple solutions to your wedding favor dilemma. Don’t underestimate the importance of wedding favors. They are the universal symbol of gratitude that the newly married couple extends to their guests. It is one of the most traditional aspects of the wedding - dating back many, many hundreds of years - extending thanks to your guests for sharing in your special day. Think about all the weddings you have attended, how would you feel if you did not receive a little “thank you” token of appreciation? The problem is, most guests expect favors - despite what some newer wedding articles might try to make you believe. Your favors need not be expensive to convey a simple thank you. All your favors should do is be functional - something practical that people can use. How many times have you received a thank you gift only to place it on a shelf, or worse yet, tossed it in the trash, because you just did not know what to do with it. Unfortunately, some couples put very little thought into their wedding favors. Often it seems, that wedding favors are cast aside and treated as a last minute idea - leaving the puzzled wedding guests to scratch their heads and say, “What is this? Don’t fall into the category of silly unconventional favors! Give your guests something that serves a purpose. Why not edible wedding favors? Most people love a sweet treat, and if it can be consumed - it most likely will be used! From simple to gourmet, edibles including candy, chocolates, cookies, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, honey and mints, will satisfy the most discriminating wedding guest - and are available in price ranges to fit any bridal budget. Some tips to keep in mind when deciding on edible or candy wedding favors: Chocolates need extra care, from shipping with ice packs during the summer months, to storage both in your home before the reception and at the catering facility for your reception. You don’t want melted favors! Allergies: some people are allergic to chocolate, some people peanuts, others can’t have sugar. You may want to offer two different types of favors, and have your wait staff distribute them, stating they have sugar free options available. (Also good for the low-carb dieter who may want to indulge!) Hard candies and mints make excellent choices, as they do not melt. Jellybeans are loved by both children and adults alike. With so many colors and flavors available you can even match them to your wedding colors! Don’t forget about drinks as edible wedding favors. Coffee, cappuccino, tea, hot cocoa, cocktail mixes, honey - all are items which can be consumed and used. They require no refrigeration, are relatively inexpensive, can be personalized, and go wonderfully with a little edible treat! Cookies and miniature cakes - a small package of cookies (maybe even with a cookie cutter attached?) or a miniature cake they can take home - make delicious treats! Jordan almonds are a traditional and lovely token of gratitude. Whatever you decide to give as an edible wedding favor you can be sure it will not leave your guests wondering what to do with them. You wedding favors will not go to waste; they will be enjoyed! You can decorate them as you please in pretty packaging - sure to match your wedding decor. It’s the idea that your gift to your guests counts the most; that you took the time to think of them. If the wedding favor you give comes from the heart, it will leave a lasting impression and memory on your guests. Erica Tevis is the owner of Two Hearts Wedding Favors http://www.twoheartsfavors.com. How To Grow Long, Shiny, Healthy Hair

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Janice Johnson Many men and women complain that their hair is not growing. They buy the most popular hair products, which promise more shine and growth. They buy supplements and read magazines looking for the next quick fix. But what many men and women fail to realize it that the way they treat their bodies plays an enormous role in the state of their hair. Here are some helpful tips to help grow healthier hair: Consume a diet high in vital nutrients mainly beta carotene, iodine and protein are necessary for shiny healthy hair. Iodine is necessary for the production of the thyroid hormone thyroxin. This hormone promotes hair growth. The foods that contain iodine are seafoods like cod, mussels, seaweed and haddock. Beta Carotene is actually converted by the body into vitamin A which makes the hair strong. You can find it in green and yellow fruits and vegetables like green peppers and cantaloupes. Protein can be found in foods like meat, eggs and nuts to name a few. Also, try to exercise weekly. This helps improve the circulation while getting your body in shape and making your body “work” better. The hormones and healthy chemical processes taking place in your body during your workout sessions, assist in overall health. Get out! Well, Im not saying this rudely. But rather literally. Get out of the house more often and get some sun. If youre at the office during the day, take a short walk outside on your lunch break. Studies have shown that healthy doses of vitamin D received from the sun actually plays a role in hair growth. But dont forget to protect your hair and scalp at all times. Always apply a sunscreen lotion to your skin and wear a hat if you’re outside for long periods of time. If you’re not wearing a hat a great tip is applying some sunscreen lotion to the exposed skin on your scalp. This will keep the area from getting burned. Remember, take care of your hair and skin. You’ll be thankful in years to come! Janice Johnson is the founder of the http://www.CurlyHairSalon.com website. Beauty and Raw Food

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Elizabeth Kiely One of the best ways to improve the appearance of your skin is by incorporating raw food into your diet. Beautiful skin starts from the inside out. People who switch to eating mostly raw food often see an improvement in their skin and look younger. Heating food above 105 degrees Fahrenheit destroys the enzymes as well as up to 50% of the protein and 70-90% of the vitamins and minerals. Eating cooked food overtaxes the bodys enzyme reserves. Eating more raw food decreases the amount of digestive enzymes your body has to produce. Raw foods are foods in their natural state with the enzymes left intact. Enzymes are needed to perform many functions in the body including digestion, assimilation and elimination of food. A drained enzyme supply can result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies, premature aging and low energy. Raw foods high in enzymes include sprouts, papaya and pineapple. Free radicals damage your skin and interfere with collagen production causing premature aging. Antioxidants counteract free radicals that age the skin. Berries, especially blueberries, are potent antioxidants that promote collagen which reduces wrinkles. Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruit help rid the body of free radicals keeping the skin looking young. Foods high in the antioxidant beta carotene including carrots and apricots protect the skin against sun damage. CoenzymeQ10 is an effective antioxidant involved in the energy process and present in every cell in the body. CoQ10 levels in the body diminish with age. CoQ10 destroys free radicals and slows aging. Spinach, broccoli and peanuts are foods high in CoQ10. Alpha-lipoic acid is a powerful antioxidant that boosts the strength of other antioxidants such as Vitamin C and E, and assists the bodys energy production. Alpha-lipoic acid can be found in spinach, brewers yeast, broccoli, tomatoes and peas. Sulfur is a mineral present in every cell in your body. It is needed in collagen production and for healthy skin, hair and nails. Organic sulfur levels in food are lost when processed, heated or dried. Sulfur is known to help improve skin conditions such as acne. High sulfur content foods include asparagus, broccoli, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, red pepper, garlic, onion, watercress and kale. Silicon is an essential trace mineral needed for healthy skin, hair, nails and bones. Silicon levels decrease with age. Fruits and vegetables are the richest source of silicon including apples, oranges, cherries, grapes, strawberries, beets, cucumber, carrots and green leafy vegetables. Phytochemicals are plant chemicals that help the body defend against damage and are said to have anti-aging properties. Phytochemicals can be found in berries, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, spinach, carrots, cocoa and bell pepper. Raw nuts and seeds are high in Vitamin E which is beneficial to the skin. Selenium keeps the skin elastic and can be found in garlic, onions and shallots. When the body rids itself of toxins, it passes through the skin which is the largest elimination organ. Raw food increases your detoxification rate. Drinking water helps the body rid itself of toxins. Seaweed is high in vitamins and minerals beneficial to the skin and also helps rid the body of toxins. To achieve a healthy complexion, drink plenty of water and eat plenty of raw food. What goes into your body is reflective in your overall appearance. How To Create An Order Form That Leads To More Sales

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Robert Boduch Your order form is a crucial component of your marketing communications both online and offline. As a separate piece of your direct mail package, or individual page of your website, the order page brings together the key components of your sales message in one concise summary. In essence, the order form should facilitate the sale. After all, its the ultimate destination you want prospects to reach — and reach it they must, if they are to place a direct order. Here are seven simple ideas to help you craft an effective order form: 1. Consider your order form to be an independent sales vehicle something that can stand on its own. Summarize the most important points mentioned in your sales letter including the major benefits, entire offer and risk-free guarantee. Give prospects the short version a compact picture of all they get with their order. Make it clear and unmistakable. 2. Write in the first person, as though the customer is verifying the order in her own mind. Begin with an affirmative — “YES, I want to learn how to sell my clients homes in 16 days or less!” This is a noticeable shift from your sales letter, which is written in the second person — “How you can learn to sell homes like the top producers in 16 days or less! 3. It’s often a good idea to begin by writing the order form first. This forces you to get to the heart and soul of your key benefits, offer and guarantee — all important points that should be restated on the order page. 4. Communicate the terms of your offer clearly and succinctly. Make it easy to read and understand quickly. Let your prospect know in no uncertain terms the quick and easy way(s) to get exactly what she wants. 5. Include these significant elements: the various payment options you accept, major benefits, bonus items, guarantee, plenty of space for your customers contact information, any shipping/handling charges and applicable taxes. Make the total amount payable obvious. 6. The entire order form should be easy to read and process in very little time. Any directions provided must be crystal clear to the prospect/customer. It should lead buyers through a simple process where all that’s been promised awaits. Upon completion, your customer should feel some degree of excitement and anticipation. 7. Arrange the various pieces that make up your order form in the same sequence you presented them in the sales letter. Don’t introduce anything new or radically different at this point. From a visual point of view, you can highlight any key elements such as the free premiums you’re including, or your guarantee. This way it’s easy for the prospect to review without raising a red flag unnecessarily. One favorite technique I like to use is to add an additional testimonial and to make it leap off the page visually. A strong testimonial here can help seal the deal. It acts as one more piece of convincing evidence in favor of the sale. Robert Boduch is an author of dozens of best-selling books, reports and articles on the art and science of selling. ISLAM and CHRISTIANITY, A View Through Arguments

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Syed Waqar Ali Hi! (Salaam to You: Peace be Upon you)What a great greeting Muslims possess that whenever they meet one another, they greet peace and comfort to others. I am Syed Waqar from Pakistan. This is an article to open the eyes of unwise people (Christians, Jews or others) with the flashing and soothing light of Islam. You know, Christians are living with disillusions, and their faith is but wishful thinking. Judo-Christian claims are not supported by the reasonable arguments about their faiths. They talk like biased people who only know but to insist. Educated and broad-minded non-Muslims must go on thinking on the facts, which a practical life conveys. Just go through the facts what I am providing you with. First of all, I wish to draw your attention on the birth of Jesus Prophet (Which of course is a Prophet of Islam. (Read Jesus A Prophet of Islam), who was born without a father. You know very well (since you have at least a bit of common sense), what is called a son without father? I dont at all mean what is thought in this regard. We Muslims really love Jesus and respect him in a true manner what even Christians dont possess. But on the other hand, Muhammad Prophet came to the earth through the accurate natural order that no one can object His birth. So the atheists and seculars can object the birth of Jesus (PBUH) but they cant do it with Muhammad (PBUH) Secondly, would anyone tell me that did Jesus accomplish his goal of life (i. e. establishing the Kingdom of God)? No and not at all. He was crucified so cursedly according to Christian faith that He said to His Father Oh Father, why have You forsaken me? But our teachings tell us that a Prophet never complains since He is always a mercy for humanity. (Read Crucifixion or Crucifiction?) On the other hand, Muhammad (PBUH) completed the whole of His task within His life. It seems to be a pre-planned schedule of God Who took Him back after the last revelation i. e. Today, We have perfected Your religion and completed Our grace for You(in April 632 AD). Just three months later, Holy Prophet passed away to meet His Creator. In this regard, when we think, it seems quite clear that Christ (Yeshua or Massih) was in fact, Holy Prophet Muhammad. I dont claim it but Torah and Injeel claim this fact. So we can claim that our Holy Prophet set a Kingdom of God where no other than Allah was worshiped. But when Muslims left the teachings of Holy Prophet and followed the Western world, they met to their decline. Thirdly, Prophet of Christianity is not an historical personality, whereas Holy Prophet (Muhammad PBUH) has been approved as an historical personality even by Christian historians and authors. On the other hand, the Christians cant even prove it factually that there was a living Jesus in the world. I must add to make it clear that Im asking for historical presence and my readers very well know what does the word historical stand for? Christian apologists shouldnt try to prove Him a living Jesus who was crucified mythically. The charge of Jews also proves very sound-affecting when they say, if he were Christ, why had he been crucified in such a detestable manner? Lastly, we compare Bible and Quran (In the light of Science, Archaeology and Sociology). You know the language of Bible is Hebrew which is almost a dead language, whereas Qurans language is used by more than 1 billion people even today. The recitation of Quran is conducted daily by almost a billion people especially five times in a day while praying. What is Bible in contrast? Every Sunday, (which is a Pagan day Sun-Day, the birth day of Sun) Christians recite Bible. So, the bases of Christianity seem to be derived from Paganism. Historically, Bible is filled with blunders and archaeologically, it has been proved erred (Read Quran, Bible and Science by Morris Boscage) Further, I must approve my view from Torah: In Torah it is written about Amrafeel (A supposed king in the era of Ibrahim i. e. Prophet Abraham) that he fought a war with another contemporary king. But if we see archaeologically, we will find that Homoraby was the king ruling in the era of Abraham (21-20 century BC) and there is no such a person of the name of Amrafeel recorded throughout in the history. So the amendment of Torah has been proved (This is quoted from the Book of Genesis) . We Muslims dont ever say that Torah is a false book and it is not inspired from God, but we claim, which we derive from Quran that Torah along with Injeel has been amended. Quran on other hand is not so since it is unchanged even upto now. This fact of Quran being unchanged has been admitted by Mr.William Meur (An orientalist of 19th century.) who was famous for his anti-Islam activities. He said, I am amazed how a book could remain unchanged for 13 centuries? But this Quran has really no literal change. Quran even speaks about those people who were hidden to the writers of Bible. Naturally, due to their ignorance, the writers of Bible couldnt include such people whom they didnt know (And it is why that many of the writers of Bibles books were not messengers of God who could directly get inspiration from God). Quran says in one of its chapters i. e. Kaf, Our torment destroyed the nations of Noah And the People of Wells. You know sir, who these people were? These people are the forgotten people of a mighty civilization called Indus Valley Civilization (Situated in Pakistan). Our team of archaeologist has proved that in throughout the history, such great number of wells never existed except in Indus Valley. The excavations in this area unveiled that all of the characteristics quite suite them what Quran tells us. You can easily imagine that how superior Quran is in its truth of archaeology in order to be a Literal Word of God. Further argument in this regard can be observed in the historical perspective that Muhammad (PBUH) had never been able to visit India. He even never listened about it since this civilization was discovered in 1826 by British Army personnel Charles Mason. Now, it is my question to you, how was such a hidden event disclosed to Muhammad? Truly, it was Allah who revealed Quran with all facts on Muhammad. Do you know the name of Copper Nachos? I hope you know who charged the Bible to be wrong since Bible says, earth is stationary whereas he claimed earth to be moving. He was imprisoned by the contractors of Christianity in Padua, Italy. About the beginning of this Universe, Bible says that there was a Chaos (Book of Genesis). Just ponder upon the word and ask yourself that what does the word Chaos stand for? It means Disorder, so according to the Bible, there was something already existed, which was in disorder form and then God ordered it in the form of universe. In this way, in fact, Bible falsifies the omnipotence and ability of God being Creator. He is only the manager of this universe in the light of above narrated view. But on the other hand, What does Quran say about all of this. Why cant these deniers see that the Earth and Heavens were merged together in a minute cosmic egg. Thus, we burst them separate to form a new universe. (21:30) Al-Anbiya (The Prophets)Im sure that you very well know about the Big Bang theory of physics. It tells us that in beginning, universe was united in the form of a little egg of energy. Later, the event of big bang (great explosion) occurred. How beautifully Quran has uncovered the truth that science could know after 1300 years. Who told such miraculous scientific facts in 7th century AD to Muhammad (PBUH), Who was an illiterate person? This thing proves Quran to be from God as a Literal Word of God. One thing I must add here, Quran is very strong in its views upon biology and anatomy. No one could challenge them till today except those who misunderstood or mis-interpreted it. A Canadian doctor Mr. Keith L. Moore has admitted the anatomical truths by accepting Quran to be the literal Word of God. He even mentioned the truthful theory of Quran about the development of embryo in the preface of his book. Qurans word ALLAQ (Leech-like embryo) was a cause of special attention for him. He said in 1981, at Dammam Saudi Arabia; It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify the statements in Quran about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come to Muhammad (PBUH) from God, because almost all of this knowledge was not discovered util many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad (PBUH) must have been a messenger of God. (Proof of this statement is a video tape namely, It Is the Truth, which can be taken from www.islam-guide.com ) Furthermore, the concept of God in Islam is very strong as well as doubtless as compared to the other divine beliefs. The basis of Islam is accepting God to be one from heart and approving it from tongue. He has no partner, son, and he is completely alone in His all of characteristics. Islamic God is not personified and even not exemplified in a human way. He is beyond our power of thinking and perception. On the other hand, the concepts of Christians and Jews about god are mythical and personified. Their God is more like a man. We Muslim worship the same god what they worship but He unveiled Himself on Muhammad (PBUH) with His very own name ALLAH. He chose ISLAM to be the last prophethood and religion. Most of the people cant understand the wisdom and the light of Quran due to the lack of their own wisdom. Secondly, most of the Western people always wear an optical of prejudice while viewing Islam. It must be taken off for righteous understanding. Quran is Mount Everest and Bible is a thumb. Quran is sun and Bible is moon. Christianity is a lantern and Islam is bright Sun.Thanks my dear for reading it and accepting the truth. Marketing on the Cheap: Write? Right!!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Floyd Snyder We all know the value of writing articles for promoting your website or online store. However, writing articles to promote your old-fashioned, traditional brick and mortar business has been around forever. Contact your local newspapers, and chances are, depending on what business you are in, they may be interested in giving you your own column. Most small or medium-sized media markets will have at least one daily serving the communities and probably at least one weekly newspaper. Offer to supply a weekly or even a monthly column for free. They are always looking for editorial content and “free” is always attractive. Be careful about a daily commitment, this can get overly demanding in a hurry. It may be a little more difficult to approach the Los Angeles Times or the New York Times, but in major media markets there are any number of regional weeklies that can be approached. Other considerations may be regional or even national trade publications, Chamber of Commerce newsletter or other professional associations and organizations you may belong to. If you cant get the column for free, dont be afraid to pay for it. But make sure the layout is designed to look as much as possible like a regular story or editorial content. The paper will probably require that you put some sort of disclaimer on your column like the word “advertising”, but this is not a big deal. Have a professional photo taken and include it in you articles whenever possible. Dont use your high school photo or one that is touched up to make you look totally different than you actually do. You are trying to build recognition and credibility. After your column has run for some time, you will be surprised how many people will easily recognize you. People like to do business with people they know. Okay, so now you have own column; make good use of it. Give it value. Do not make it a blatant advertisement and/or sales pitch. In fact, except in extremely rare occasions you probably dont want to sell anything directly in your column at all. You want to write real content, stories that are either of real value or entertaining. I had a friend once that owned a restaurant. He paid to have his own column in our local newspaper. He never once wrote a story about his own restaurant. Instead he wrote about his world travels, famous chefs, and the wonderful restaurants he had enjoyed. Another approach you may want to consider is a “How To” column. I once supplied a weekly column for an art gallery/picture-framing studio. We wrote a series of how to buy and frame your own artwork. Check you local newspaper and you will no doubt see examples. If you are writing the column for the newspaper and not paying for it, make sure you retain editorial control and copyright to the work. If you are paying for insertion, ask your ad representative or ad agency for samples. As you travel around, pick up the local newspapers in the area you are visiting and see what others are doing. If you dont have the time or the feel you are not capable of writhing your own column, check with an ad agency. You should be able to find one that provides this service. If you belong to a professional association, check with them and see if they supply “ghost” stories. I have worked with accountants, stockbrokers, lawyers and others using ghost stories. I will suggest that if you are not writing the story yourself, you may want avoid the by line that says “by” and use “furnished by” or “supplied by” or something of that nature. The last thing you want to do is get caught taking credit for writing something someone else wrote. If you pay a copywriter for original copy, this is not as likely to happen. But if you use ghost stories from an association, you are more then likely not going to have exclusivity. Someone in another publication may be running the same story. When you start this project, think long term. It takes a commitment. It will take some time to build readership. You are establishing yourself as an expert in your field to people that dont know you. This will not happen overnight. I mentioned retaining editorial control and copyright. After you have created a number of columns and/or stories, you may want to consider putting them all together in a book. Keep this in mind in the early stages. If you are working with a ghostwriter or ad agency, make sure they understand your intentions so proper preparations can be made and taken into consideration from the very beginning. If your traditional non-web based business does have a web site, and it should have, make sure you prepare your writings for distribution on the net as well. Once you start writing you can use the materials in any number of different ways. Sogo write something! Daylilies are Easy to Maintain, Naturalize Effortlessly and are Nearly Pest-free

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Babu Banik Daylilies Flowers Daylilies are colorful, easy to grow and will shine in many flower garden conditions. Daylilies are rugged, adaptable, vigorous perennials that endure in a garden for many years with little or no care. Daylilies adapt to a wide range of soil and light conditions. They establish quickly, grow vigorously, and survive winters with little or no injury. Daylilies belong to the genus Hemerocallis and are not true lilies. This Greek word is made up of two parts: hemera meaning day and kallos meaning beauty. The name is appropriate, since each flower lasts only one day. Some of the newer varieties have flowers that open in the evening and remain open until the evening of the following day. Many of these night blooming plants are delightfully fragrant. Gardeners love them for their rainbow of colors (they flower in every shade except blue) and many shapes and sizes. They make versatile garden plants too: you can have daylilies in bloom from late spring until autumn. A well-established clump produces many buds and new flowers daily for a month or more. Daylily flowers come in many colors, shades, and color combinations. Some are very full and round, others have wide petals with ruffled edges and borders. Others, called spiders, are spidery in shape; doubles have double the number of petals and sepals. Many are nocturnal and very fragrant and other cultivars have branched flower scapes Daylilies are useful in the perennial flower border, planted in large masses, or as a ground cover on slopes, where they form a dense mat in just a few years. Daylilies grow best in full sun. They will tolerate light shade, but flower best with a minimum of six hours of direct sun. Light shade during the hottest part of the day keeps the flowers fresh. Daylilies should not be planted near trees and shrubs that are likely to compete for moisture and nutrients. Although daylilies are adaptable to most soils, they do best in a slightly acidic, moist soil that is high in organic matter and well drained. Although daylilies tolerate drought, they perform best in moist, but well-drained soils. One inch of water weekly is ideal, more frequent watering may be necessary on sandy soils. Daylilies can be planted almost any time the soil can be worked. You need to till the soil deeply before planting. This plant is a favorite with gardeners as it adapts readily to a wide range of soil and temperature conditions, and is generally quite hardy and free from serious insect problems. It’s an excellent plant for beds and borders, but choose your location carefully as these plants can get rather large (one to three feet in height and across), shading or crowding lower flowers and landscape plants. The best time to transplant or divide plants is early spring or immediately after flowering. Plants divided in the spring may not bloom the same summer. Divisions should have two to three stems or fans of leaves with all roots attached. Make divisions by digging the entire plant and gently pulling the fans apart. Cut the foliage back, leaving only five or six inches. Place the plant in the soil so the crown (the portion where the stem and root meets) is one inch below the ground line. Water thoroughly after planting. A winter mulch of straw or shredded leaves helps ensure against winter injury for unestablished plants. Once established, daylilies require little care and may grow for many years without division. Yearly addition in spring of compost and fertilizer around plants will help maintain best growth. Some cultivars (cultivated varieties) have foliage that lasts well into the fall and can be cut back then or in the spring. Cut back foliage in late summer or early fall on cultivars whose foliage turns brown. When cutting back, pull off any dead foliage and cut back other leaves to within a few inches of the ground. Daylilies seldom get serious insect or disease problems in home gardens, although you might encounter three problems. If foliage is damaged as it emerges in early spring, from cold for instance, it may emerge distorted. This is often called spring sickness, and plants will usually begin to grow normally with good weather and care. Insect control measures usually are not necessary. Aphids and thrips sometimes feed on the flower buds. These pests can be controlled with insecticidal soaps or a repeated strong spray of water. Annual fertilization may be helpful in producing more flowers. A spring application of manure or compost is beneficial each year. For best bloom daylilies require much fertilizer and moisture prior to bloom time. They will tolerate less fertilizer and poorer soils, but wont bloom as well. Apply granular, organic liquid-soluble, or foliar-applied fertilizers according to label directions. Daydilies are easy to maintain, naturalize effortlessly and are nearly pest-free. They grow in a wide variety of conditions, have a long bloom season, multiply indefinitely and make great cut flowers. So go for these beautiful plants to gracefully adorn your garden! Funeral Plans: Your Questions Answered

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Sharon Hurley Hall It makes sense to plan your funeral in advance. Here are some of the areas you may be concerned about. 1. What happens if the funeral plan provider goes out of business? While this is considered unlikely, monies paid by you for your funeral plan will be received in accordance with the code of conduct of the UK’s National Association of Pre-paid Funeral Plans (NAPFP) and will be fully protected. The money for your funeral is held in a a trust - a separate legal entity - which is regularly audited by independent actuaries and accountants. So your funeral would still be carried out according to your guaranteed funeral plan and the funeral director would be paid from the trust fund. 2. What if I move home? Your guarantee is simply relocated to another funeral director convenient to your new home. If you decide to live abroad, you may apply for a refund. If you move home, please notify your funeral plan provider as soon as possible so we can ensure all records are up to date. 3. What are the advantages of paying for my funeral now? Why not put the money into a savings account? Once you have paid for a pre-paid funeral plan, you will never have to pay any more for the funeral director’s costs no matter how much these costs may rise in the future. No savings account can provide such a guarantee. In recent years funeral expenses have increased in excess of inflation. So why not secure your funeral requirements at today’s price and then use the remainder of your savings just how you want! 4. What happens if the designated funeral director ceases to trade? Your funeral plan provider will make the same arrangements with another local funeral director. 5. Are there any age or health limitations on who can purchase a funeral plan? No. And no. Simple as that. 6. What if I want to take out a plan for someone else? No problem, as long as the plan is suitable and required by that person. 7. What about insurance based funeral plans? They have several disadvantages. Principally they don’t guarantee to cover funeral costs or allow you to specify the arrangements. Even if you are in reasonable health, you may well end up paying much more in premiums than the insurance company will ever pay out and the funeral would need to be paid for, often well before the insurance paid out. 8. What if I die away from home? Each plan includes collection from within a specified distance. If you are travelling away from your local area additional costs may be incurred. If you travel abroad you should obtain travel insurance to cover all eventualities. 9. Do funeral plans include burial? Nowadays, most people are cremated. Accordingly the cost of a burial plot is usually not included. However, should you wish to be buried your funeral plan provider will be pleased to discuss this with you, with a view to you purchasing a plot at a cemetery of your choice. The cost and availability of a plot varies considerably throughout the country. If you already have a burial plot please provide the funeral plan provider with the information. The Beauty Of The Gazebo Kit

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Arturo Ronzon Gazebos have long been a fixture in backyards and gardens for centuries. Their popularity has become more widespread with each generation and they are the most popular of the outdoor structure in the world today. They have been called summerhouses, screen houses, kiosks, pavilions, pergolas and more, but they all mean the same thing when it comes to convenience in outdoor living. The easiest most economical way to make this a reality for you is to purchase a gazebo kit. With a gazebo kit, you are free to customize your outdoor structure to your exact specifications. There are many styles and designs to choose from, so be sure to shop around before you make any final decisions. You will find that a gazebo kit will add hours of outdoor enjoyment to your familys recreation time. A gazebo kit can be a round, square, rectangular, or octagonal in shape. They can be small or large, plain or elaborate or anything else you can think of. Many people choose a gazebo to complement their homes. Gazebos can be wired for electricity too. You may decide to use your gazebo kit for a place you can relax and contemplate nature, or you may choose to build an outdoor dining room if you do a lot of entertaining. One of the most popular uses for a gazebo kit is as a hot tub enclosure. Slip into your bathing suit, open a bottle of wine and add some romantic candlelight for an intimate evening for you and your mate. One of the most trendy designs for a gazebo kit is the Octagonal with a double roof. This offers a Victorian look and a classic design that will never go out of style. If you like the style of the Octagonal but require more space, there is a rectangle, pavilion-type of gazebo. If you want to make your gazebo more of a summerhouse, then you can opt for a screen kit to keep out bugs and other critters that may come calling. You can enjoy those summer evenings without fear of being a feast for the mosquitoes. So get out there and find the gazebo kit that is right for you.
